About Focus Pest Solutions
Local people. Practical pest control.
Hi, I'm Aimee McBean, owner and director of Focus Pest Solutions.
I've called Cambridge home my whole life, and I'm proud to be a fourth-generation Cambridge local. My family has deep roots in the area, and now my own children go to local schools too.
So Cambridge isn't simply the place where I run my business — it's home. I really value being part of the local community and building a business that local people can know, trust and rely on.
I got into the pest management industry in 2020 and took over the business formerly known as Bugs Gone Pest Control in 2021. Since then, I've grown Focus Pest Solutions into a small local team providing pest control for homes, farms and businesses throughout Cambridge, Waipa and the wider Waikato.
We're not a big national company or a call centre. We're a small, local business, and that's something I'm actually pretty proud of.
When you call Focus Pest Solutions, you're dealing with people who live and work in the same community as you.
Why pest control?
I'll admit, pest control wasn't necessarily the career path I had planned!
But after getting into the industry, I quickly realised just how interesting pest management is. Every property and every pest problem is a little different, and often the obvious problem isn't actually the whole story.
That's one of the things I enjoy most about the job — working out why the pests are there in the first place and finding a practical way to deal with the problem.
Whether it's ants appearing in the kitchen, rats getting into a roof space, cockroaches turning up in a commercial kitchen or spiders taking over the outside of a house, we try to look beyond simply treating what you can see.
It's about more than just spraying
We're big believers in prevention and Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
Sometimes the answer is a targeted treatment. Sometimes it's baiting and monitoring. Sometimes it's finding where rodents or insects are getting into a building and working out how to stop them coming back.
Quite often, it's a combination of things.
Our job isn't just to turn up, spray something and drive away. We want to understand what's happening and give you practical advice about what can be done to reduce the chances of the problem returning.
That's particularly important with ongoing commercial pest management, where prevention, monitoring and good records can make a big difference.
Proud to be part of the pest management industry
Our team are qualified NZ Urban Pest Management technicians and members of the Pest Management Association of New Zealand (PMANZ).
I'm also proud to be an Executive Council member of PMANZ.
Being involved with PMANZ gives me the opportunity to contribute to the wider pest management industry in New Zealand, keep learning from other people in the industry and have a say in the future direction of pest management.
Pest control is an industry that's constantly changing, with new products, technology, monitoring systems, regulations and ways of managing pests coming along all the time. I think it's important to keep learning and sharing knowledge rather than just doing things because "that's how we've always done it".
A Cambridge business supporting the local community
We're based right here in Cambridge, and we work with homeowners and businesses throughout Waipa and the wider Waikato.
That includes Cambridge and surrounding areas such as Leamington, Tamahere, Te Awamutu, Ohaupo, Karapiro and Hamilton, as well as rural properties and businesses further afield.
We provide pest control for all sorts of properties, including:
Homes and rental properties
Cafés and restaurants
Food businesses
Offices
Schools and education facilities
Warehouses and storage facilities
Manufacturing and industrial sites
Workshops
Hotels and accommodation providers
Rural properties
We also provide ongoing commercial pest management programs for businesses that need regular monitoring, reporting and preventative pest control.
A small team that cares about doing a good job
Being a small business means our reputation matters.
We don't have hundreds of technicians running around New Zealand. We're a small local team, and we get to know our customers and their properties.
We want people to feel comfortable asking questions, telling us what's happening and getting in touch if something doesn't seem right.
We also understand that having pests in your home can be pretty unpleasant. Nobody wants to find cockroaches in their kitchen, hear scratching in the roof at night or discover that their pantry has become home to a colony of ants!
Our aim is to make the whole process as straightforward and stress-free as possible.
